The Assiniboine Watershed Stewardship Association’s annual poster contest is being offered to grade 3-6 students within our watershed. This year’s theme is Wetlands and Wildlife. The deadline for poster entry submission is Friday May 14, 2021.
There are two competition divisions this year: students in grades 3-4, and students in grades 5-6 each have a chance at a first-place prize of $200 cash, a second place prize of $100 and a third place-$50 prize. Each first-place winner’s poster will then be shown and judged at the annual Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds (SAW) conference in June against top posters from the ten other provincial watershed groups for the chance to win the provincial grand prize: $500 cash for the student!
In addition, the AWSA would like to offer a half-hour educational class presentation to students focused on our watershed, including its wetlands and wildlife. In the past, we have been able to come into classrooms and share a powerpoint with videos, answer questions, and make edible aquifers for the students to enjoy. This year, however, likely will not be exactly as it has been in the past. If you are an interested teacher, we would like to work with you to provide a presentation while following all public health recommendations and requests from your school before the poster contest deadline. We understand that in-person visits may not be possible and would be happy to share the media presentation virtually with the class.
