What We're Doing‎ > ‎

2011 Video/Multimedia Contest

The Assiniboine Watershed Stewardship Association is committed to achieving our vision statement of “citizens and communities of the Assiniboine River Watershed working together to protect the source waters of the Assiniboine River; its tributaries and aquifers within the watershed.” As such, we support continuing watershed education as a key component of our organization’s activities. It is our belief that action is born through awareness that is fostered through education. In the past we have delivered various school programs across the watershed to promote watershed awareness and education.

This year we are pleased to announce a new initiative. Through the partnership with other watershed organizations across the province it is my pleasure to invite your students to participate in a Multimedia and Video Contest. The theme to be used this year is, “The Importance of Watersheds”.  The contest is open to all students within grades 9 through 12. The top 2 local entries will receive prizes and be published on the Saskatchewan Association of Watershed’s Facebook page. The first place local entry will have their work shown at the Saskatchewan Watershed Conference on April 12th, 2011 in Humboldt and compete to win the provincial grand prize of an Ipod Nano and a $1500 RESP to be used at a post-secondary education institute of their choice.

We are leaving the topic fairly broad in order to get a wide variety of entries. Part of a winning entry will be the student’s ability to demonstrate that they are able to carry out accurate independent research regarding the topic of watersheds, with the other part being the ability to present their findings in a captivating manner. I suggest the students check out the AWSA website for incorporation of information on our local watershed into their presentations. If you have additional questions please feel free to contact me. I can be reached on either my office phone (306)783-1692 or my cellular (306)641-5533. I look forward to all of your students’ entries.

Sincerely,

Jesse Nielsen

Watershed Coordinator
